What is the
DOD SkillBridge Program?
The DOD SkillBridge Program gives service members the opportunity to transition from active duty into civilian careers — gaining real-world training while continuing to receive military pay and benefits.
For service members, SkillBridge offers a unique chance to gain valuable civilian work experience during the last 180 days of service. Participants keep their military compensation and benefits while training for high-demand careers in industries like roofing.
For industry partners, it is an opportunity to access and leverage one of the most motivated and disciplined workforces in the world — at no cost. Companies provide the civilian training and mentorship, while service members prepare for long-term career success.
Installation and unit commanders play a key role by authorizing participation and bridging the gap between military service and civilian employment. With proper approval, service members can dedicate up to 180 days fully to training, building skills that translate directly into future opportunities.
